Sure summer might feel like a distant memory, but just cause the weather has turned where you live doesn’t mean camping season is over for the rest of America! Here are five destinations in the United States where you can extend your camping season:
Big Bend National Park in Texas: Big Bend National Park, considered to be Texas' gift to the nation, is a magnificent desert region with canyons and mountain views. Big Bend is one of our favorite national parks. This park has a variety of camping options, including backcountry camping and RV sites, and its mild winter makes camping here pleasurable even in January.
Yosemite National Park in California: With its high elevation and varied terrain, Yosemite offers a range of camping options. You would not think it but this can be a great destination for camping in the fall and winter when the temps start to drop.
Joshua Tree National Park in California: This park has a unique desert climate that makes it a great destination for camping all year-round. Just make sure to make a reservation because all of the sites book up fast! Joshua Tree sites fill up early and quickly so set your reminder.
Red River Gorge in Kentucky: This is an excellent area to camp in the winter for a number of reasons. First off, there are many breathtaking natural surrounds to take in as the gorge is located directly in the center of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Additionally, the region is known for having mild winters, which makes it a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors without having to battle icy temperatures or copious amounts of snowfall.
The Grand Canyon in Arizona: The Grand Canyon boasts a wide range of camping choices, including backcountry camping, and has a temperate desert temperature that makes camping there enjoyable all year long.
