Welcome to our monthly Rigs We Dig series! Each month in 2025, we'll be celebrating the ingenuity of a featured DIY build—showcasing their smart design, practical functionality, and adventurous spirit.

Some rigs are built for the long haul, and some are built to bring home comfort wherever you roam. Shaun Freilich’s 2024 Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition, affectionately named CampZilla, is a prime example of a setup that blends power, comfort, and adventure-readiness in one beastly package.

What made you choose a (your vehicle make & model) as your base?

I previously owned several Toyota Tundra’s and have always been impressed by its performance and reliability. Additionally, Toyota Motor North America is one of my clients, making it a natural choice for our next shop build. The decision was an easy one, as it aligns with both my personal experience and professional relationships.

Can you give us a top highlight overview of your buildout and its key features?

One of the biggest highlights of the build has to be the SmartCap. Since their HQ is now in Fort Worth, we had the awesome opportunity to work directly with them. We added their Kitchen Bin, which has everything you need to cook outdoors—it’s a total game-changer for camp life! Another key feature is the Alu-Cab RTT. Hands down, they’re the leader in the rooftop tent industry, and their product is next-level. The quality, functionality, and comfort make camping feel effortless. And last but definitely not least, partnering with Park Tool was a huge win! We worked with SmartCap to create a custom Park Tool Bin, which keeps all the tools we need right at camp. Whether it’s making adjustments to our MTBs or handling on-the-go repairs, it’s been a clutch addition to the setup.

What were your main goals or priorities when designing and building your rig?

When designing CampZilla, I had a few key priorities. First and foremost, I wanted to clear 39” BF Goodrich tires! I knew I needed the perfect stance—not just for looks but also for serious performance on the trails (and even where there are no trails). That’s where Camburg came in. At the time, they hadn’t released their Long Travel kit for the Tundra yet, but they worked with us and sent over the only kit they had produced at that point—huge shoutout to them! Then came the challenge of actually clearing the 39s, so we teamed up with FiberWorx, who hooked us up with fiberglass fenders and bedsides to make it happen.Once the stance was dialed in, the next priority was making sure I could camp in total comfort. That’s where SmartCap and Alu-Cab came in—they worked together to ensure I had the ultimate setup for camping in style. There were definitely other goals throughout the build process, but these were the big ones that brought CampZilla to life!

What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the build process?

The most challenging part of building Campzilla was hands-down the topographic paint job. We didn’t just slap on a wrap—this was all hand-laid and painted using six different Toyota paint colors to create the full topo design. It covers everything—doors, bedsides, tailgate, truck cap, and more—so making sure all the lines flowed seamlessly from panel to panel was a serious challenge.

It took a ton of time and precision to get it just right, but honestly, that’s what makes the build so one-of-a-kind. The topo design is what really sets it apart and makes people do a double-take when they see it in person. Definitely a challenge, but 100% worth it!

How many dollar signs on a scale of 1 to  5 is your build (5 being the highest)?

$$$$$

What products, brands, or upgrades are you most excited about  in your rig?

There’s so much to be excited about when it comes to the products we installed on CampZilla. From the Camburg Long Travel Suspension to the FiberWorx Fenders & Bedsides, the Alu-Cab RTT, and the SmartCap Topper, every upgrade played a role in making this build what it is. But the most exciting part? Partnering with Forbidden Bike Company and Eddyline Kayaks to create matching mountain bikes and kayaks!

Incorporating them was always part of the plan, but taking it a step further with custom paint to match the Tundra’s concept brought the whole vision to life. For the MTBs, we used two of Toyota’s newest colors—Dune and Everest—not just as the main palette but also to ghost in a topographic design on both bikes. Seeing everything come together—from the truck to the bikes to the kayaks—all with a cohesive design theme, was an incredible moment. It truly made the entire build feel next level and completely one-of-a-kind.

How much time and effort did the entire process take, and was it worth it?

The build process was FAST—this thing came together in just about three months for the 2024 SEMA Show! We had a vision early in the year, but getting access to key parts took some time, so once everything was in, it was full speed ahead. One of the standout features of this build is definitely the paintwork. The topographic design was 100% hand-laid and painted—not a wrap! People always assume it’s a wrap when they first see the truck, but nope, every detail was meticulously painted. If we were doing this build under normal circumstances, we’d ask for at least six months, start to finish. But when you’re building for SEMA, there’s no wiggle room—you make it happen, no matter what. That’s why they call it the SEMA Crunch! Deadlines are brutal, but that’s what makes it so rewarding when you finally roll into the show with a finished build.

What’s one feature in your rig that you’ve learned you cannot live without?

This one’s easy—HEST! A good night’s sleep is a game-changer, especially after a long day of MTB riding, kayaking, and adventuring. But honestly, it’s not just about recovery; I actually look forward to it! Crawling into the Alu-Cab RTT, surrounded by nature, and still having that home-level comfort thanks to my HEST setup? It’s next level. I wouldn’t want to camp without it!

Are there any features or upgrades you wish you had added (or done differently)?

The next big upgrade for Campzilla is adding power and solar, so I can go fully off-grid without worrying about getting stranded! The goal is to have a setup that keeps everything running no matter where the adventure takes me, because the more remote, the better!

Where is the coolest place you have taken your rig?

For 2025, my goal is to hit at least four big adventures and trust me, they’re gonna be epic! Of course, there will be plenty of quick weekend getaways, but I’m definitely planning some full-on, off-grid experiences. Since Campzilla has matching MTBs and kayaks, you can bet there’s going to be a mix of mountains and water involved! Right now, Colorado, California, and Arkansas are at the top of my list—perfect spots to get way off the beaten path and do some legit camping. Whether it’s ripping through trails, paddling into the unknown, or just soaking in the views, this rig is built for adventure, and I can’t wait to put it to the test!

Do you have any advice for someone just starting their overland rig build?

Have a clear vision but stay flexible! Builds never go exactly as planned—delays, challenges, and last-minute changes happen, so patience is key. Also, don’t cut corners—use quality products that fit your lifestyle. That’s why I partnered with brands like HEST, Toyota, Camburg, SmartCap, Rigid, Addictive Desert Designs, and many others to make sure Campzilla was truly adventure-ready.Most importantly, have fun with it! Whether it’s a full SEMA build or something personal, make sure it reflects your style and the adventures you want to take. And once it’s done—get out there and use it!
