Some rigs were just born to be named. When Enrique Martinez got his hands on a black 2020 Toyota Tacoma, he knew this adventure mobile was no exception. Kitted out with a rooftop tent and enough clearance to explore the roads less traveled, El Taco Negro is one whip that'll have you coming back for seconds. Learn more about this California setup in the latest edition of HEST Rigs We Dig.

Your Name: Enrique Martinez

Location: Burbank, California

Make & Model: 2020 Toyota Tacoma

Nickname:  El Taco Negro

HEST products: HEST Dually Platform 50

Is this your daily driver or getaway car?

Yes to both ; )

What do you like most about your rig?

Being able to access areas and roads most vehicles can’t. Nothing beats being the only one out there in the wilderness with no one around.

On your average weekend adventure, what is the gear set up you bring with you? How did you integrate gear storage needs into your rig set up?

Love my GFC Platform Camper! The only thing I was missing was a comfortable sleeping pad. The Hest Platform 50 has more than blown my expectations in comfort! No more tossing and turning at night. Beyond that, a fridge full of food, ISUP for rivers and lakes, my wife and my Frenchie “Nacho” by my side complete a perfect getaway. How did you navigate gear storage needs into your rig set up? Had full length wood drawers built at 10” high which still leaves plenty of room in the bed of my truck for more gear. One side of the drawer is for the kitchen and the other side for my gear.

Any cool custom details you're proud of?

My drawer system was made out of lite ply to save some weight—always packed and ready for an adventure. Shout out to Solid Wood Worx.

Coolest place you’ve taken your rig to?

So many! I've made regular trips to the Eastern Sierra in California, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and the list goes on. One of my favorites trips so far was up to the Smith River via the Lost Coast Highway.

Any projects in the pipeline to get your rig even more adventure ready?

Not really, maybe additional skid plates or a diesel heater in preparation for a trip to Montana and Banff, Canada coming up soon.

Biggest challenge in your build out?

Hiding my truck part packages from my wife till I install them lol.

Tips for others looking to do the same to their vehicle?

Just take your vehicle out on adventures. The adventure experience will let you know what you need to add to your vehicle for your next trip.
