What made you choose a (your vehicle make & model) as your base? (e.g., off-road capabilities, size, or reliability)
Can you give us a top highlight overview of your buildout and its key features? (Comfort, self-sufficiency, durability, etc.)
Key features include the garage space for the bikes - there’s a bike stand, tools and hose for working on the bikes. It can easily hold 4 bikes inside plus more with a bike rack. The bed is fitted with the Hest Dually mattress and has room to sit up and hang out in. There’s a simple kitchen set up with custom drawers. There’s a few hidden shelves and storage under the bench as well as above the seats. Also the seats swivel around to create a hangout space in the van. Even though it’s the smaller 144 wheelbase, still wanted to have lots of space to hangout and store bike gear inside.
What were some of the biggest challenges you faced during the build process? (Time, cost, finding parts, or technical difficulties)
I was lucky to have my friend Ken with Carrve custom vans make the build for me. He said there was some trial and error involved to get the layout exactly as we wanted, but he did an incredible job and it turned out amazing.
How many dollar signs on a scale of 1($<$100) to 5($$$$$ ~ >$100,000+) is your build (5 being the highest)?
Around $$$ - it’s built with super nice materials and quality, but also only has the things I felt like I really needed.
What products, brands, or upgrades are you most excited about in your rig?
Carrve team did an amazing job with the custom cabinets and storage systems. I love the garage for my bikes as well with the stand and tools to work on them when needed.
Are there any features or upgrades you wish you had added (or done differently)?
Honestly I don’t think so, I really love how it turned out and wouldn’t change anything. What’s one feature in your rig that you’ve learned you cannot live without?
Hest mattress of course - can’t go anywhere without it. Getting good sleep while traveling and at events is super important and helps me perform my best! How much time and effort did the entire process take, and was it worth it?
Where is the coolest place you have taken your rig?
My favorite trip so far has been a big road trip around BC in Canada - we went to Whistler, Kamloops, Vernon and Revelstoke over the course of a few weeks for some events.
Do you have any advice for someone just starting their overland rig build?
Having a camping rig is so rad! Regardless of what your set up is and how much it costs, having something that can get you out there and sleeping comfortably on trips is so much fun and has been a game changer for me. I started with just an old truck and a topper and absolutely loved it. I’m lucky to have been able to upgrade over the years, but just get started with something and enjoy the process!
