We dig this rig! Welcome to the new eletric trailer RV engineered for zero emissions, comfort and built to last. The L1 harnesses solar energy and a self- propelled drivetrain to bring near-zero range loss to your EV.

Your name:  Nathan DePuy, Marketing Manager for Lightship

Location:  Boulder, Colorado

Rig Nickname:  Lightship L1

Towing Vehicle Make & Model:  Any vehicle with a 7,500lb or greater towing capacity  Year: Production starting in late 2024

HEST products:  Hest Camp Pillows

What are the dimensions of the Lightship?

27ft long, 8.5 ft wide, 6.75ft tall in Road Mode, and 10ft tall in Camp Mode.

What is the sleeping space like in the Lightship?

The Lightship L1 can sleep 4-6 people depending on the configuration you choose. The front area converts into about a queen-sized bed, sleeping two. The dinette lowers into a second sleeping area, which can sleep two more people. You can also configure your L1 to have a third lofted bed over the front sleeping area, which will accommodate an additional two individuals.

What do you like most about the Lightship?

There are so many pieces of innovative technology in this trailer that it is impossible to pick just one. Personally, I believe the combination of its aerodynamic design, all-electric appliances, 2-3kw of solar on the roof, an electric drive motor, and a modern design, come together to make the L1 unlike any travel trailer you’ve seen before.

What is the most creative feature of the Lightship?

Again, there are many to choose from but my personal favorite is the telescoping design. The L1 lowers to 6’9” in Road Mode, making it follow the aerodynamic profile of its tow vehicle. It rises to 10 ft tall in Camp Mode, giving it luxurious residential-height ceilings and panoramic views out of every window.

What is the coolest fact about Lightship?

An electric drive motor and aerodynamic vehicle body combine for a weightless, low-drag towing experience. Our design enables near-zero range loss to your EV, or improved fuel economy for a combustion engine tow vehicle when compared to towing a traditional travel trailer.

How did Lightship plan for gear storage needs?

There is a large pass-through storage area in the front of the trailer for bulkier items. Inside the trailer, there is a spacious storage console on half of the trailer for items such as clothing, food, and cookware. Up top, there are a series of gear rails that allow for many storage attachments such as gear bags and racks for larger toys. Bringing bikes? There are interior tie-downs for larger items such as bikes. Rest assured, even though it tows like a much smaller travel trailer, there is plenty of room in the L1 for everything you’ll want to bring on your adventure.

Any cool custom details you’re proud of?

The L1 was crafted with the planet in mind. We began with durable flooring, produced with renewable energy and low climate impact. From there, we chose stain-resistant countertops made from ocean waste. And finally, we designed a custom textile that’s automotive-grade and up to 70% recycled polyester, for a lounge area that lasts.

Coolest place the Lightship proto has been?

We have had a blast showing off the L1 at various events around the country this year. It's been to beaches, mountains, vineyards, rivers, and everywhere in between. That said, our launch event at SXSW in Austin was certainly a very special place to show off the L1.
