From Florida beaches to the rolling mountains of Georgia, Jose Romero has always been drawn to the wild places. Nowadays, he gets there with the help of his kitted-out 2021 Toyota 4Runner, a rig he has lovingly dubbed, "DRAKO4RUNNER."  Featuring a Gazelle tent and a few HEST bedding solutions, DRAKO4RUNNER is a bonafide gator country getaway vehicle. Learn more about this setup in the latest edition of HEST Rigs We Dig.

Your Name: Jose Romero

Location: Orlando, Florida

Make & Model: 2021 Toyota 4Runner

Nickname:  DRAKO4RUNNER

HEST products: HEST Pillow and Comforter

Is this your daily driver or getaway car?

It's both.

What do you like most about your rig?

I like everything. In addition to the look and the comfort of feeling at home when I am in nature with my family, my rig takes me where not everyone can go.

On your average weekend adventure, what is the gear set up you bring with you? How did you integrate gear storage needs into your rig set up?

I have a fairly simple setup. In my roof rack, I have a 270 awning for summer days with a lot of sun. To sleep, my setup is a Gazelle tent with an inflatable mattress that is super comfortable to transport, and I have much more comfort with my new HEST Pillows and Comforter. I can easily transport all of it in my car, which is what it's all about: having a lot of comfort when organizing and also having everything necessary and simple for a trip.

Coolest place you’ve taken your rig to?

Some remote beaches in Florida and the mountains in Georgia.

Any projects in the pipeline to get your rig even more adventure ready?

I'd like to work on a rear kitchen system ARB, and rear bumpers too.

Biggest challenge in your build out?

Having a car with limited space is quite difficult to assemble but not impossible. The gas consumption is crazy too. But, I love my build.

Tips for others looking to do the same to their vehicle?

Build your vehicle according to what you like and your needs. If you want a vehicle like my 4Runner to go overlanding like me, I recommend simplifying your campsite, building it with the things you really need. Most importantly, go out to explore and enjoy the beautiful nature without limits.
