Public lands give us a place to relax, clear skies to stargaze, a reason to unplug, & escape in nature. We want to preserve these beautiful parts of the world for generations to come, so everyone can enjoy them as much as us. That’s why HEST is a proud supporter of 1% For The Planet and giving back to our public lands that we love and use so much.  1% For The Planet was founded to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable giving and provide accountability.

The 1% For The Planet certification is given to businesses, like HEST, and individuals that meet the high-bar commitment — donate 1% of annual sales or salary to environmental causes. In 2021, HEST officially became a proud member of 1% For The Planet by giving 1% of our annual sales to partners that work for public lands around the state of Washington.  The 1% membership model helps drive critical philanthropic support to address the most urgent environmental issues of our time. Their network exemplifies the power of collective action as we as a whole bring together individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations around the world to support people and the planet. When we all work together, 1% adds up.

At HEST, the impact to our environment is part of our developing process of new and current products. We recently changed buying our shipping cardboard from over seas to a sustainable forested cardboard manufacturer out of Canada. This cuts down on both the  emissions used to ship the cardboard to our warehouse in Seattle as well as using sustainable raw materials. We are in the planning process to have our production fully carbon neutral in the future. Carbon Neutral - or Net Zero Carbon - is a term used to describe the state of an entity (such as HEST), where the carbon emissions caused by HEST is balanced out by funding an equivalent amount of carbon savings elsewhere in the world.

At HEST we are moving in the direction to help protect our planet daily because we love our outdoors. If you want to help too, please consider becoming a member of 1% For The Planet yourself. To learn more about 1% For The Planet visit their website at
